The Baby-Led Sleep Approach™
This approach emphasizes a mother’s instincts and baby’s cues. We aim to help parents find sleep solutions through responsive parenting practices while building connected relationships. We are passionate about helping families improve sleep without the use of any formal sleep training (see below for what that means to us) and use an approach that:
respects and nurtures the attachment system
supports the natural progression of development
gives parents an understanding of what “normal” baby sleep looks like
appreciates your baby’s still-developing brain + dominant survival instinct
encourages parents to believe in + follow their own instincts
guides parents to understand the emotional work required to support sleep
educates parents on what causes sleep interruptions
empowers a mother to make changes to improve the quality of her baby’s sleep
How do we define sleep training?
It’s important to note that this term means many different things to different people. To us, it can be defined as different versions of timed increments of separation (often involving crying) from a primary caregiver to stop a child from cueing or signalling during naps or overnight sleep. Parents are often instructed to withhold comfort and connection during these moments. Sleep training often involves a set plan, a guarantee for more sleep in a certain number of days (big red flag in our opinion as this is something that can never be promised), withholding or significantly reducing overnight nutrition and terms such as “bad habits”, “sleep crutch” and “self-soothing” are often used.
Our Commitment to You…
we will always encourage you to keep the pieces of your sleep routine you love and support you in making changes to the pieces that are no longer working.
you will never be asked to go against your instincts.
you will never be asked to leave your child alone to cry.
we will never use separation techniques to get your baby sleeping longer.
you will never be given a fixed sleep plan as we honour each family as unique.
you will never feel judged for your parenting choices.
you will never be told to stop breastfeeding, bottle-feeding or bed-sharing.
